Is "Buy the Dip" Failing in 2026?

read on substack →Mechanical engineer. Product manager. Curious builder.
I have a habit of turning curiosity into projects. I like understanding how things actually work, then building something around them. Sometimes that's a product at work, sometimes it's an AI system at 1 AM, and sometimes it's an F1 telemetry platform nobody asked for.
My career started far from software. I trained as a Mechanical Engineer and spent my early years on manufacturing projects, sourcing components, managing suppliers, and even working on an electric scooter. Somewhere along the way, I realised the problems I enjoyed most weren't purely engineering. They sat at the intersection of users, business, and technology.
That pulled me into Product Management. Over the last four years, I've built products across SaaS, InsurTech, and FinTech, from a B2B manufacturing procurement platform at Karkhana.io, to a travel insurance system at Europ Assistance, to an investment advisory product at Renaissance used by 50,000+ investors.
But building doesn't stop when the workday ends. I spend my free time experimenting with AI, finance, and Formula 1 data. Most projects start the same way: "I wonder if I can build this." Then I end up going much further down the rabbit hole than intended.
